About ACA

Association of
Chartered Accountants

A handful of young Chartered Accountants, mainly based at North Chennai, were meeting periodically to discuss topics of professional importance and to widen their knowledge and exposure on different subjects.

Enthused by the success of such meetings, it was felt appropriate to have a formal setup in the form of an organized professional association. With this idea, an informal association was formed and the first meeting open to professional public was held on April 3, 1999. Since then, we have been meeting every month with unfailing regularity.

The successful conduct of the informal association, for few years, had encouraged us to constitute a legal body. The result of which is the birth of a Registered Society, viz. Association of Chartered Accountants, Chennai, on April 1, 2003. The Association is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975 and managed by a committee comprising of 9 members. The committee members in turn elect the Office-Bearers.

From the initial stages of discussion on tax laws and corporate laws, we have moved on a full-fledged treasure house of talent mobilization. Most of our Speakers have made their first ever public speaking debut under our banner. We have been fortunate to have many legal luminaries, eminent Chartered Accountants, high- ranking Government Officials and public-spirited personalities as our Guest Speakers.

Every year we conduct a Residential Refresher Course (RRC) outside Chennai to study selected topics in-depth in serene surroundings. In the forenoons, there are serious discussions and the afternoons are generally earmarked for local sightseeing and relaxation. We have so far successfully conducted 16 RRCs. These RRCs have contributed in fostering bonds of goodwill and fellowship within the family members of participating Chartered Accountants. In fact our RRC is an eagerly awaited event by delegates and their family members. In addition, we organize full / half-a-day seminars on subjects of contemporary & topical relevance.

Further, every year, we honour the students associated with our members, who qualify in both the groups, either in IPCC / Final exams of our Institute. In 2012-13, our Association successfully completed a decade of professional service. To mark this milestone, the 10th year was celebrated in a befitting manner.

Among various other initiatives, we have created a student scholarship program under the aegis of CA. Mahaveer Munoth Memorial Endowment.

We also have taken a step forward in the sphere of Information & Technology by setting up a Google Group facilitating exchange of news and views amongst members. Through this e-group members seek suggestions and opinions on their queries.

We play a complementary role to our professional body namely the ICAI and our objective is to serve the accounting fraternity and students, so that they become professionally competent, technically sound, thereby contributing their might to the national development.

Since inception, our membership has grown strength to strength to about 300 Chartered Accountants currently. Having consolidated our base, we would like to spread our wings and it is our earnest desire to serve the maximum number of Chartered Accountants.

The main objective of our association is to educate members and students of the profession, and accordingly our motto states... Share Knowledge – Spread Light.
